In short

PVC Insulation Tape is the general purpose electrical tape for domestic as well as industrial use, available in various sizes and lengths and in both ISI and Non-ISI grades. It is a polyvinyl chloride film tape that provides reliable dielectric protection for EV wiring, conductor wrapping and battery pack assembly. It combines electrical insulation with moisture, weather and abrasion resistance, which is why it is the workhorse tape on pack-level electrical safety and finishing work. PVC film stretches slightly as it is applied, so it conforms tightly around wires, joints and corners and stays wrapped without springing back; it is also the reason it gives a clean, durable finish to battery casings. The tape is available in standard widths suited to production lines, with multiple widths and colours available on request, so different circuits, phases or assemblies can be identified by colour. PVC Insulation Tape is manufactured by Lalit Jain Industries Pvt. Ltd. (LJIPL), an ISO 9001:2015 certified tape manufacturer founded in 1987, at its units in Rai, Sonipat (Haryana) and Bawana, Delhi NCR, India.

What is PVC insulation tape used for?

PVC insulation tape is the general purpose electrical tape for domestic as well as industrial use, available in various sizes and lengths and in both ISI and Non-ISI grades. It provides reliable dielectric protection for EV wiring, conductor wrapping and battery pack assembly. Dielectric simply means the material does not conduct: wrapped around a conductor, it keeps current where it belongs.

Beyond the electrical job it is used for finishing. It provides a clean, durable finish to battery casings and is used widely for EV wire wrapping and conductor protection, where moisture and weather resistance matter as much as insulation.

PVC is used because the film has a little stretch in it. That is what lets a tape conform around a wire, a joint or a corner and stay there instead of springing off. The wider insulation and electrical range across the group is listed at Lalit Jain Industries Pvt. Ltd. (LJIPL).

PVC tape or polyimide tape: which one do I need?

They do different jobs. PVC insulation tape is the general-purpose choice for wire wrapping, conductor protection and casing finish, where moisture and weather resistance are wanted alongside dielectric protection.

Polyimide tape is the choice where heat is the problem. Mr.Bond® Polyimide Tape carries a Class 180°C rating, is flame-retardant grade, and is used specifically to wrap the nickel strips inside a battery pack.

Many packs use both: polyimide at the hot, tightly packed interconnects, PVC on the harness runs and casing work around them. If you are unsure, describe where the tape sits and how hot it gets when you enquire, or work through polyimide, PVC or polyester, which adds the polyester (PET) option used in transformers, capacitors and LED TVs and the four questions that settle the choice.

Does PVC tape come in different colours and widths?

Yes. Multiple widths and colours are available on request, and standard widths suited to production lines are held as stock sizes.

Colour is not decoration on a wiring harness. Different colours let an assembler or a service technician identify circuits, phases or subassemblies at a glance, without tracing a wire back to its origin. Specify the widths and colours you need in your enquiry, together with quantities, and the requirement will be quoted against your specification.

Where PVC insulation fits among the other pack materials is set out on the EV battery tapes hub.

Where it is used

Typical applications

EV wiring

Wrapping harnesses and conductors

PVC insulation tape is used widely for EV wire wrapping and conductor protection. The film conforms around the bundle as it is applied and stays wrapped, giving dielectric protection along with moisture and abrasion resistance where the harness runs through the vehicle.

Battery pack assembly

Pack-level electrical insulation

Inside a pack the tape provides reliable dielectric insulation across the operating range on connections, joints and conductors. It is moisture and weather resistant, which is what pack-level use demands of a general-purpose insulation tape.

Production lines

Casing finish and colour identification

The tape provides a clean, durable finish to battery casings, and it is available in standard widths suited to production lines. Multiple colours on request allow circuits, phases or assemblies to be identified by colour rather than by tracing.

Buyer questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this a general purpose electrical tape, and is an ISI grade available?

Yes. PVC insulation tape is the general purpose electrical tape for domestic as well as industrial use, supplied in various sizes and lengths. Both ISI and Non-ISI grades are available, so state which grade your specification calls for when you enquire, along with the widths, lengths and colours you need.

What is PVC insulation tape used for?

It provides reliable dielectric protection for EV wiring, conductor wrapping and battery pack assembly. It is also used to give a clean, durable finish to battery casings. It combines electrical insulation with moisture, weather and abrasion resistance, which makes it the general-purpose insulation tape on most pack-level work.

What does dielectric mean on an insulation tape?

Dielectric means the material does not conduct electricity. Wrapped around a conductor or joint, a dielectric film keeps current inside the conductor and isolates it from anything it should not touch. PVC insulation tape provides reliable dielectric insulation across its operating range.

Is PVC tape weather and moisture resistant?

Yes. It is moisture and weather resistant, which is why it is specified for pack-level use rather than indoor electrical work alone. That resistance, combined with abrasion resistance, is what allows it to protect conductors that are exposed to the environment inside a vehicle.

What is the difference between PVC and polyimide tape?

PVC tape is the general-purpose choice for wire wrapping, conductor protection and casing finish, with moisture and weather resistance. Polyimide tape is the high-temperature choice: Mr.Bond® Polyimide Tape is Class 180°C, flame-retardant grade, and is used to wrap nickel strips inside the battery pack. Many packs use both.

What widths and colours are available?

Standard widths suited to production lines are available, with multiple widths and colours available on request. Colour is commonly used to identify circuits, phases or subassemblies on a harness. Send the widths, colours and quantities you need and the requirement will be quoted.

Who manufactures this PVC insulation tape?

Lalit Jain Industries Pvt. Ltd. (LJIPL), founded in 1987 and ISO 9001:2015 certified, manufactures it in India. Production runs at two units, Rai, Sonipat in Haryana and Bawana in Delhi, under the direction of Mr. Prateek Jain and Mr. Shikhar Jain.
